11/10/2019 Today the Vestry announced that Father John Jeffrey Purchal will be our new rector! We thank the Search Committee member for their time and diligence in helping the St.Thomas community to reach this decision and we heartily welcome Father as our new Rector!
The search committee has completed it's primary mission and submitted a parish profile to the diocese. This has been approved and posted to the private OTM site for qualified candidates to review.
On August 7th the Search Committee met and reviewed our progress. The most important step discussed was that our parish profile was submitted to the Office of Transition Ministry for approval.
Once approved it will be posted for candidates to review.
The parish profile was a comprehensive document that reviewed our church community, history, facilities, local history, community resources, geography and area attractions that would be of interest to a candidate.
Our hope is for approval and publication to follow in short order.
The Committee met and reviewed final edits for the OTM (Office of Transition Ministry) profile.
Report will be submitted to Canon Woodley for review. Once approved it will be posted on the Diocesan website and St. Thomas website to solicit candidates.
Next Meeting will be held on August 7th at 6:30 pm.
The Search Committee has been meeting regularly since August of 2018. To date, several important phases of the search have been achieved successfully, including:
Our plan for the summer is to finalize the Parish Profile material and follow it through to the OTM submission process.
NEXT MEETING: WEDNESDAY JULY 10th
The Search Committee spent time looking at Parish Profiles from other churches in our diocese. This month we will focus on gathering information to include in our Profile.
Topics such as demographics, church history, town history, culture and arts, facilities, finances, rector expectations, and others, will all be included in our Profile. We have also reached out to Canon Woodley about the process of posting our Profile to the Office of Transition Ministry
Next Search Committee Meeting: Wednesday, June 5
The Search Committee has compiled the results of the group breakout sessions from the Parish Summit. Together with the results of our Parish Survey, this information will be included in our Parish Profile.
Some of the Search Committee members will be going on Neighborhood Walks now that the weather is getting nicer. The purpose of these walks is to prayerfully observe our community looking for God’s presence, and to look for areas that are in need of God’s presence. Our observations will hopefully enhance our Parish Profile.
The creation of our Parish Profile is a vital step in the search process. The Parish Profile will be a representation of St. Thomas of Canterbury and is what will be seen by prospective rectors.
Please pray for the committee, that we may properly deliver our mission and spirit to those looking to lead us.
Next Search Committee Meeting: Wednesday, May 1
This has been a very progressive month for the ongoing search!
We received 67 completed surveys with thoughtful comments included. We really appreciate how much every one loves the St. Thomas Church and community.
On Sunday March 10th we also held a 3 and a half hour summit led by Canon Woodley. About 40 people were gracious enough to sacrifice their Sunday afternoon to spend time in guided discussions of where we are today and where we see our selves in the future and (most importantly) how a new rector will be a part of that vision.
The results of the meeting and the survey will be compiled into a parish profile that will be used as part of the candidate search process.
Our next meting will be held on April 2nd at 6:30 pm.
As always please feel free to check in with the search committee with your questions and feedback
The Parish Survey is printed and on the website for all parishioners to complete.

Thank you to all who have already completed it. The deadline for completion is Sunday, February 17. There are also paper copies in the back of the church. You can return the paper surveys to the basket on the usher's table or mail them to the church office.
The Vestry is working on the financials for position offering.
Mark your calendars for Sunday, March 10. We will have one service at 10am, followed by a luncheon and a Parish Summit with Canon Woodley. Discussions will be about our transition and our search for a new rector. The results of the Parish Survey will be compiled before that date.
NOTE: THIS IS "SPRING FORWARD" Sunday due to daylight savings time change.
Mike Duffel will attend the February Vestry Meeting and Pat Reynolds will attend the March Vestry meeting.
Date of next Search Meeting is March 5.
